IIT, the dream of
every student will come in to reality here. To achieve this, The
only one name if we think about IIT is RAMAIAH...the GURU of
hundreds of IITians in the state as well in the country. Started
from a humble beginning a decade-and-a-half ago, the Ramaiah
Institute in the city has carved out an cheerful success in the
field of imparting coaching to students appearing for the
IIT-Joint Entrance Examination. From an institution of no
recognition it has grown into one of the premier IIT coaching
centers not only in the State but also in the entire country. It
has risen by leaps and bounds and produced over 1,000 IIT students
since its launching in 1985.

The man behind the prestigious institution is Chukka Ramaiah, a
mathematician, freedom fighter, erudite and in a word a paragon of
virtues. The launching of the Ramaiah IIT Coaching Center was
sheer accidental. it was students who took the initiative to bring
together three persons. Ramaiah, along with chemistry teacher
Madhusudhan Rao, Physics teacher Surendranath Reddy met one place
and decided to create a institute.
Ramaiah, after his retirement as principal of AP Residential
Degree College in Nagarjuna Sagar in 1983 he moved to Hyderabad.
Then, a half-a-dozen students preparing for the IIT entrance test
approached him to teach mathematics. But, none of them was
qualified in the test. In 1984 ten persons received coaching and 6
were qualified. Later,
the number of students approaching for coaching and their success
rate has slowly gone up. Thus the Ramaiah Institute has become a
synonymous with the IIT coaching. Every year hundreds of students
started approaching to get the seats. But, only a few of them
would be fortunate ones. Explaining how the students were taken in
to the institution, Ramaiah said that an entrance test was
conducted every year to take only 120 students. The test was
"sarcastically" called "Entrance Test for Entrance
Test".
